Indian Police Dismantle Fraud Ring Targeting Australians with Fake Accent
Indian authorities have dismantled a sophisticated fraud operation that specifically targeted Australians by leveraging meticulously trained telecallers. The criminals mastered the nuances of the Australian accent, including the distinctive high-pitched rising intonation and the omission of the 'r' sound at the end of words. This linguistic deception allowed them to siphon funds from victims across the globe.
During a raid conducted on Saturday, nine individuals were arrested, including six from West Bengal. However, two key orchestrators remain at large. The operation's masterminds reportedly recruited Indian students and former Australia residents, exploiting their familiarity with the country to build trust. The scammers allegedly accessed victims' banking details to facilitate fraudulent transactions.
